Maaret El-Nouman   Dead Cities St. Simeon El-Bara Qalb Loze Al-maara Ebla Around 81 km from Aleppo, highway Em 5 serves the small town of Maaret En-Noman, so typically oriental with its animated souqs and its main square near the Great Mosque. It is built on an antique city and its fortress was one of the most fought for places of the Syrian plateau during the Crusades. The Great Mosque is interesting with its late 12th century minaret. Another medieval monument to be seen is a madrassa which was founded in 1199. From the main square, opposite the Mosque, turn left and you will see the remains of the citadel. At 500 meters from the square go to the right, then to the left, at 5.5 km. in the direction of Binin. After the village of Hassein turn to the left and you will reach EI-Bara. A very important museum was created recently in the caravanserai! of the town.   Previous
