Using the Damascus-Homs freeway you will reach the village of Nabk quickly by crossing a pass of 1515m. between
the mountains of the Anti-Lebanon and the Palmyrene, along the Syrian desert. After about thirty kilometers, the
countryside becomes rather bleak on account of very weak rainfall. Here we are below the 200 mm. rainfall limit
marking the difference between areas where dry cereal culture is possible and desert areas, with a whole gradation
between the steppes and absolute desert. In these parts there are no maritime rains on account of the high summits
of Mount Lebanon and the Anti-Lebanon.
