The National Museum

It was founded in 1919 on the riverbank of Barada. Its initial site was at Al-Adeliya School, then the building of its present situation was started in Stages which were begun in 1955 and finished in 1978.
It contains very ancient antiquities and relics of history as far back as the Stone Age. It is witness of the greatness of the past and the reaction of civilizations. It Is visited by 15-20 thousand tourists a month. (Its telephone number is 2214855).

 
The Museum of Folk Traditions (Al-Azem Palace.)

It was built in 1749 by Asaad Pasha Al-Azem south of the Omayyad Mosque as a residence for the Wall (Governor). Then it was converted Into a museum, for folk traditions. It is visited by more than 15 thousand tourists a month, (its telephone number is 2214984).

 
Damascus Historical Museum.

It is a Damascus dwelling house for Al-Azem family on Al-Thawra Street, behind Old Souk Al-Hall.
Its walls are decorated with mosaic works and Persian designs and decorations. It contains historical documents and preserves the design and features of old Damascene houses.

 
Museum of Medical Sciences - Bimaristan Al-Nouri

It was built in 1154 AD to serve as a hospital and medical school. It is visited by specialists and researchers to benefit from its historical library. Of equal Importance are the manuscripts kept at Al-Zhaheriya Library In the vicinity of Hamidiya Souk. (Its telephone number is 2216681).

 
The Museum of Arabic Calligraphy

Located at Al-Jakmakiyya near Saladin's Mausoleum. It contains, among other things, documents of the most remarkable types and designs of Arabic calligraphy.

 
Takiyya Sulaymaniyya Museum - Military Museum.

Damascus Souks and Caravansaries. Most important of which are Hamidiya Souk, and Handicrafts Bazaar at Sulaymaniyya.

 
Carvaserails

There are eleven specialized caravansaries in Damascus, such as Khan Al-Hareer, Bridal Khan, Tailors' Khan, and Oil Khan. Most Important of which is Khan Asaad Pasha Al-Azem which is being amended and redone to be a very distinguished hotel.
