The Museum of Homs, opened in 1975 on the ground floor
of the Arab Cultural Center, contains Roman, Byzantine and Arab-Islamic
remains unearthed during excavations in the area.
This museum will be transferred to the old municipality
building, which is now being repaired. Since it is not possible to visit
the citadel, occupied by the military, you will end your itinerary
through the city by visiting on the road to Hama, about 500 m. off
Shukri Kouatly street, opposite the Post Office, the big mosque, a
modern building on bases of white and black stones, which has the tomb
of Khaled Ibn EI-Walid, who by his victory on the river Yarmouk, on
August 20 636, made it possible for the fighters of Islam to conquer
Syria
